The Anxious Moment

4thEntry: The Anxious Moment

This is the time where my life and death was depending on Agbala..

As I started to tell story to Ekwefi, suddenly a loud voice from Chielo, priestess of Agbala was heard and it stopped me from continuing my story. When my name was mentioned by Chielo, I was really shocked and I could see Ekwefi’s face was very afraid. The Agbala wanted to meet me but my father pleaded the priestess to come back in the morning. I knew that my father was also worried about what the Agbala would do to me. However, Chielo insisted and my father could do nothing but to let her bring me to the Agbala.

Knowing that I would meet Agbala, I shivered and my tears dropped out all of a sudden. I was afraid that I would never see my family again if I follow the priestess. Before I climb to Agbala’s back, Ekwefi comforted me by saying there is nothing to be afraid of but as we walked out from my hut I was crying very loudly and calling my mother’s name. What made me so touched was when Ekwefi determined to follow us to make sure my safety.

Ekwefi was so pity. She suffered especially when she followed us in the dark forest because she could see nothing. My father was also worried about me and my mother, Ekwefi, so he followed Ekwefi. My parents’ action has portrayed their love for me that they were willingly to be in trouble just for my sake. I should treat them the way they have treated me to show that I also love them.

The Folk Story

3rdEntry: The Folk Story

Hey there…it’s my other entry again…

For this time, I want to share with everyone about my interest. I like to hear and tell folk stories with Ekwefi, my mother. One night, we sat on a mat on the floor and it was Ekwefi’s turn to tell story. I admit that I am a bit impatient when listening to stories. I often question Ekwefi before she could finish her words. However, she never angry whenever I ask her question. This is because she is a patient and loving person and I am very lucky to have her as my mother.

That night, Ekwefi tells story about ‘A tortoise and a group of birds’ The tortoise was bad and greedy. It likes to take advantages on the birds. But, in the end the tortoise had to pay back for all the things that he had done.

I really enjoyed the story although there was no song in it. Despite that, the story have many moral values such as we should not treat other people badly because they will also treat you the same way. After Ekwefi had finished her story, then it was my turn to tell another folk story.

The Helpful Me

2ndEntry: The Helpful Me

Hi, this is about my good attitude towards my family.

During the preparation before the wrestling match in the New Yam Feastival, I helped my family members preparing food. When Nyowe’s mother, Nma, asked Ekwefi whether I could bring the fire in the broken pot to her or not, I immediately carry it to Nwoye’s mother. Not just that, I also offered Nma to make the fire for her. I went outside her hut to bring some sticks from a huge bundle of firewood to build fire.

After I helped Nma, I went back again to Ekwefi to help her prepare the yams. I ran to the barn and brought back two yams from the dwarf wall. I helped her because at the wrestling match would begin soon and as the only child of her, it is my duty to do what she asked me to do.

When it was our turn to serve food to my father, I helped Ekwefi to bring the pottage in a bowl to Okonkwo. While I was sitting near my father, I asked him whether he would go to see the wrestling or not. He said that he would go so I offered myself to bring his chair but my father refused because I am a girl and that was a boy’s job. Even though I wanted to help my father, I should know my limit and the difference of a girl and a boy’s job.
